In an operational system, data is usually kept at the lowest level of detail. When we first saw Mystery Mania, it reminded us of a flash cartoon you might find online. Colors are bright and attractive, but the sets felt slightly flat. The visuals aren’t anything special. A spoken dialogue is missing from the game, so F8 and his acquaintances communicate through signboards that appear when talking commences. But, EA has provided a cool eerie score that fits nicely with the whole mood of the game. Now, if you are enveloped in gameplay and receive a phone call, Mystery Mania will save your progress so that you can return to the same spot later.

A while back, it occurred to me that there was a much bigger world out there; I was getting restless. I had lived my entire life in the same country, and I wanted to experience more. I would move to a new country. At the same time, I decided that I would take along only those belongings that would fit in four suitcases; everything else would have to go. This decision would change my life. Along the way, it also converted me from a desktop PC user to a notebook user.

One of the items I considered absolutely necessary to take with me for a successful move was my PC. It contained all the important e-mails I had sent and received in my life, as well as my financial records and other critical information. In addition, the PC was how I intended to earn a living in my new home. But the desktop, monitor, keyboard, and mouse were incredibly bulky and heavy and I despaired of being able to transport them safely inside my luggage. The solution was obvious — I needed to replace my PC with a notebook.

I carefully researched the offerings and found a notebook that suited my needs. Now I needed to turn the new notebook into the functional equivalent of my old PC, by moving all my personal stuff from one to the other.

Using some inexpensive specialized software, I found it was a simple task to move the files from my old PC to my new notebook. Now I could use my notebook for all the same things I had been using my desktop for, and it would fit very comfortably in my carry-on. Since the display, keyboard, and mouse were built in to the notebook, the notebook replaced all of those items as well as the desktop tower. But this was only the first step.

There were other things I owned that had never been part of my desktop, which I realized I could add to my notebook — photographs, music, and documentation. I proceeded to load my notebook with the music from all my CDs, plus my old vinyl records and cassette tapes. With a bit more effort, I also scanned in hundreds of photos and papers that I wanted to take along.

To me, it was a miracle. My notebook was just the same size as it was when I had first purchased it, but now in that compact space it held the contents of hundreds of bulky items that I no longer needed to worry about trying to bring with me. I never needed to decide which pieces of music I couldn’t live without; I would be able to bring it all.

In the end, the move was a complete success, and it would not have been possible without the notebook.

Our own opinion is that if others possess a power such as this, they can challenge the leaders of the church. Since no one wants to lose their power, they keep everyone suppressed about the matter. Granted, it’s not like this everyone, but when cases arise it’s usually the reason.

Then of course if it’s not religious talk, you can always turn to the scientific thoughts. Even though we do have open-minded scientists who believe in telepathy, there are some out there who think it’s virtually impossible. The thought behind it is that you cannot taste or touch it, nor numerically measured. Believing this only keeps the positive thoughts at bay.

It’s a big dilemma considering scientists have no problem accepting emotions and instincts. Are these individuals being prejudice? It’s possible, but since scientists can feel emotions and instincts themselves, they consider this okay. When it comes to telepathy though, there is a lot left to be explained, so they don’t acknowledge it.

Some believe it could be that the scientists who oppose telepathy are simply jealous. After all, it doesn’t seem fair that someone could do something like this, which is why they don’t want anyone else to have them. So instead of branding something different, it is always considered an instinctive response.

Maybe we can date back this loss as far as the Tower of Babylon story featured in the bible and the confusion that surrounded languages. Maybe it wasn’t just language that was a setback; maybe people who used telepathy had this problem as well.

From the refuge of the few to the new equivalent of the English major, film schools have become very popular. When I went to college it wasn’t a particularly popular major. In fact, it was something of a non-major. Now, of course, it’s particularly fashionable and there is a certain panache that come with telling people you are a film major. As the culture is more and more inundated with entertainment, the more prominent film majors become. Does this cheapen the degree? A mute point, perhaps.

To my surprise, as my time in film school came to an end, I became more and more interested in method acting and started to write my own scripts. This led me to realize most of my fellow cohorts in the field were not particularly interested in cinema, per se. Rather, they were interested in the glamor, mostly fabricated, of being a film major. What was the big deal about DeMille, Welles, Brando, or Dean? After all, at the end of the day it was about how one looked, not what one did.

I would reckon I was one of a handful of students who actually had a collection of laser discs. As the year progressed, I began to decipher which students were truly interested in film and which were mere, prancing posers. The most notable tell was the fact the students who truly loved film did not cared much for how well they were dressed or groomed.

Film demands a certain appreciation that doesn’t leave much time or inclination to craft a “look.” We didn’t gather in large groups or waste all of our parent’s money on pub- crawls. We used all of our resources to obtain the best quality films, scripts, and biographies we could find. More importantly, we used our money to buy tickets to art-house screenings.

Now, when I happen upon a fellow cineaste, walking alone with their bulky film history books, I see myself. I see a generation of film lovers keeping the flame of appreciation alive. The desire is still the same: to watch, to be engrossed, and to learn a little bit more about what it means to not only be a movie fan, but a human being.

When we consciously attempt to do something, our Reticular Activation System (RAS) will search the sub-conscious mind for any relevant information it holds, and bring it to our attention. If we’re walking down a street, we’re only made aware of things that have meaning to us – the rest is just background noise.

This means that if our conscious mind has been regularly sending messages that are upbeat and positive to our sub-conscious mind, then that’s what it will transfer back. But if our sub-conscious has been given loads of downbeat and defeatist messages, then that’s equally what will be sent back.

Achievers, it appears, are able to manipulate the messages streamimg through to their sub-conscious minds. They do this by choosing the exact messages the conscious mind sends and deliberately programming their RAS. As such, it’s an essential tool for achieving goals, as the sub-conscious mind can’t tell the difference between real or imaginary events.

In other words, we need to create a very specific picture of our goal in our conscious mind. The RAS will then pass this on to our subconscious – which, as it believes everything it’s told, will then help us achieve the goal. It does this by making us aware of all the relevant information which otherwise might have stayed as ‘background noise’.

Napoleon Hill once wrote that we can attain any realistic goal if we keep that goal clearly in our mind, and stop allowing any negative thoughts about it. If we keep thinking that we can’t achieve a goal, of course, our subconscious will help us not to achieve it.
