Half, bone-in of 5 to 8 lbs should be cooked for 35 to 40 minutes per lb.

Cooking by Temperature

Though the cooking temperature will vary depending upon the recipe, Hams should preferably be cooked at 135 °F or until the thermometer reads 140 °F.

Adjusting the Final Temperature

At the rarest, fresh ham is cooked for approximately 22 to 25 minutes per pound at 140 °F. As you know that your meat will continue to cook even after you remove it from the oven so you can take it out about 5 °F below what you want the internal temp to be.

The best way to determine the meat has been fully cooked is to check for its doneness. Following are the ways that you can use to check the meat for doneness:

  1. Poke a fork into the meat and see if it easily penetrates into it.
  2. The meat will begin to get separated from the bones
  3. When meat thermometer is inserted into the thickest part of the cut it should show a temperature of o160°F for uncooked or partially cooked ham and 140°F for a fully cooked ham

It is important to note that an overcooked ham looses its juices that reduces the flavor of the meat, hence over cooking should be avoided. At the same time if the meat is not properly cooked then it should be cooked further to the proper doneness so that it's safe to eat.

How to Build a TrikeMotorcycle trikes are three-wheeled vehicles that can seat one to two people comfortably. Often people prefer to have trikes  because it provides increased luggage capacity without affecting the stable and smooth ride. Offering the similar joy as of riding a motorcycle, trikes are best for those who often make trips with some luggage.

If you too want to have a trike but think it's difficult to build, then this article will help you to make one. All you need for building a trike is some machining skill, a motorcycle and a helping hand that could assist you in the building process. Read the following to know how you can build your trike:

Instructions

  1. With the support of your jack tool lift the motorcycle and remove the rear wheel. Loosen the two nuts that are on the either sides of the rear axle, carefully sliding the rear tire a bit forward and then sliding the chain off the sprocket. Once it is done, pull the rear wheel from the swing arm. Also pull the rear axle.
  2. Decide how wide you want your trike to be. You can build trike of any length as per your requirement. In this article we will build a trike that is half as wide as it is long. How to Build a Trike
  3. Also decide about the length of the rear axle that will be apt for the trike. Once you decide the exact length dimension, subtract the length of the existing rear axel from this newly determined length. Now divide the number that you get from subtraction by two in order to get the exact length of the axel that is to be welded on both the sides of the existing axel.
  4. Use lathe to remove some steel to achieve the desired thickness that matches with the thickness of the existing rear axel. Also cut the required amount of steel to match the desired length. Now weld each steel piece to each end of the axel. Make sure they are perfectly square.
  5. Fix the wheels hubs to the new axel. Weld them to the ends of the larger axel and then slide the new axel into its right place, on the swing arm. Put back or tighten the castle nuts and also reinstall the chain on the sprocket.
  6. Now install the trailer wheels to the ends of the new axel. Slide the wheels on the wheel hubs and tightly fix all the lug nuts to ensure wheels are properly attached.
  7. If you want you can also add fenders to the back wheels by bending the metal up and over the tires and then bolting it along the frame. Paint it with any of the colors of your choice.

Your trike is ready for a test ride. Go for it!

How Long to Cook Beef
October 13, 2009 at 12:04 am

How Long to Cook BeefBeef when cooked properly can be a delicious dish to serve but when not fully cooked it can turn out to be diners horror. There are various ways of cooking beef. It can be roasted, fried, grilled, broiled, smoked and so on. One of the important factors that must be considered while cooking beef is the right cooking time at desired temperature.

Shape and size of the meat, amount of bones and fat present and several other factors determine the proper cooking time. However, the standard internal temperature for rare beef is 130 degrees; it is 150 degrees for medium and 170 degrees for perfectly done. A meat thermometer or instant read thermometer is used to test the temperature of beef. It is inserted into the center of the meat without touching any bones.

Microwave

When beef is cooked in a microwave, the finished product generally has tougher texture than when cooked with other methods. Though in most of the cases it is cooked within 10 to 15 minutes of time, the cooking time can vary depending upon the amount of meat being cooked as well as the power of the microwave being used.

Oven

When roasting is your cooking method, then you must know that different types of roasting will require different cooking time and temperatures. For instance,

  1. A 5- to 8-lb standing rib roast will take approximately 17-20 minutes per pound for rare, 20-22 minutes for medium rare, 22-25 minutes for medium, and 27-30 minutes for perfectly done at a constant oven temperature of 300°F (160°C)
  2. A sirloin roast of 8- to 12-lbs will take approxiomately15-20 minutes for rare, 20-22 for medium rare, 22-25 for medium, and 26-30 for well done.
  3. A boneless top round will take nearly 28-30 minutes for rare, 30-33 for medium rare, 34-38 for medium, and 40-45 for well done. How Long to Cook Beef

It is always recommended to test the roasted meat with a meat thermometer at the end of the cooking time. The roast should be removed from the oven when it is about 5 degrees cooler than the desired temperature (it will continue to cook even outside the oven).

    Smoker

Smoked beef is cooked by placing the raw meat into the smoker and then allowing to it cook slowly by indirect heat that is supplied from burning coal or wood. Depending upon the amount and size of meat being cooked, carefully gauge the cooking time. This is essential because the smaller roasts reach the desired temperature faster than the larger roasts. For instance approximately 1 hour per pound is apt for the largest roast. However, if you are cooking one 10-lb. roast and two 8-lb. roasts, then cooking time should be about 10 hours.

    Barbecue, Broil and Frying

Cooking individual portions of beef by broiling, frying or grilling requires each side of the piece to be exposed to the heat for a particular time. According to the thickness of the meat, each side should preferably be cooked for 4 to 8 minutes.

    How to Build Quarter Pipes
    October 12, 2009 at 2:26 pm

How to Build Quarter PipesIf you don't wish to use the skate parks placed far from your home, then creating your own quarter pipe can be a great option. Having your own backyard quarter pipe will help you use it as and when you feel like, without paying any thing for it. Moreover, you can also call your friends and have fun in your own created skate park

Building quarter pipes is easy, provided you have all the tools and some helping hand. This article will provide you guidelines that will help you construct your own quarter pipe:

    Material Required

Eight 2×4’sHow to Build Quarter Pipes
Three pre cut 2′x 4′ plywood panels of 3/4-inches
    One sheet 1/4 Plywood
    One sheet masonite
    One piece steel coping
    Wood screws
Hammer, nails, screw driver and circular saw

    Process

First decide about the transitions you want for your quarter pipe. It is important because it will affect the framework of the structure. You must know that if you go for smaller transitions it will be steeper but if you go for the bigger ones it will be mellower. This article deals with a 4′ radius on a 2′ ramp.

    1. Take a frame of two 2×4s and attach a measured string to the top of the frame. Draw an arc. Now carefully cut along the lines. You can cut both transitions at the same time or trace the first transition on to the second one so as to have accurate templates. If you decide to go for a wider ramp then you will require additional templates for better stability. Make sure your 2×4’s is not longer than eight feet.
    2. Now start setting up the transitions where the ramp will be placed. Determine how wide your quarter pipe will be and accordingly subtract the width of your side pieces (templates) from this measured width. How to Build Quarter Pipes
    3. Cut the ribs(2×4 pieces). It is always preferable to line them up together and then cut them so that more than one piece is cut at a time thus making your work easier and quicker. But while doing so make sure that all the pieces are lined up uniformly in exact positions so that they all are cut into even sizes.
    4. Start nailing in studs. First, arrange for the back, top and bottom supports. Then you can place the top 2×4 in with its skinny end flush with the top of the transition. This will form the point where you will set your copying and place the remaining studs. Make sure that the stud that is closest to the ground is flat so that you can get as close to the ground as possible. To ensure a sturdy ramp, put in stud at every six inches or so.
    5. Now carefully frame out your deck. Create it wide enough so that people can easily stand on it to perfrom tricks. Approx skateboard's length is safe. For a larger deck frame, 16-inches off centered studs would be fine.
    6. Ply your deck. Screw it to studs by using 1/4 inch plywood. You must know that if you use quarter-inch plywood it will bend easier and hence you’ll need two layers to make things extra sturdy. However, one layer would be too spongy, and would break easily.
    7. Decide how you want to set the coping. You can simply line up the sheets for the top deck as well as for the masonite but then you will require more sheet to ensure its rightly set. This should be decided when you start building your deck, and laying down your plywood.
    8. Screw on masonite. You must counter sink your screws to ensure they do not stick out. Draw lines along the studs for using the screws. Every six inches is a good rule.
    9. Carefully cut your coping to size and screw it in. You can do this by simply drilling holes (bigger on top and smaller at the bottom). With the screw is inside the coping, try to angle back the large holes so that you don't notice them when you are skating.
